Aimhigher Parents / Carers

Welcome to the Parent and Carer section of this Aimhigher website.  Our Aimhigher teams who work in universities, schools and colleges often meet and discuss opportunities with parents and carers at school parents evenings and other events. One questions that often crops up is:

'How can I help son/daughter achieve to their full potential, and get the job they really want ?'

Below are a few suggestions:

  • Encourage them to think about their future, and what training and qualifications they might need.
  • Support them in developing a routine for homework and revision.
  • Seek out those who can help your son/daughter. This might include Tutors, Learning Mentors, College Careers Advisers or Connexions Personal Advisers.
  • Find out what you need to know to help them make decisions about their future. Why not go to a university open day? These are advertised on the university websites.
  • Find out what it might cost for your son/daughter to go to university. It may be more manageable than you think. See the Student Finance section of the DirectGov site for more details.
